The Cotswolds - Barton Mill Place

Two bedroom first floor apartment with garage - £395,000

Barton Mill Place is a delightful small development of retirement cottages and 2 flats situated off Barton Place close to the town centre. The properties are set around a garden square and each has its own garage.

The Anglo-Saxon chronicle believed that the former Roman city of Cirencester was still an administrative centre when the Saxons came in 577. They could have approached the town along one of three Roman roads which meet here - either Akeman Street, The Fosse Way or Ermine Street. In the middle ages the town became very prosperous with the wool trade and its success at this time has left many beautiful seventeenth and eighteenth century buildings as well as the imposing Church of St John the Baptist in the market square.

Today Cirencester still retains its status as the leading market town in the Cotswolds with an abundance of good shops and now a Waitrose and a Tesco supermarket. Nearby are excellent golf courses, leisure centres and parkland and numerous places to visit including Colesbourne Park with its famous collection of snowdrops.

Cirencester is well placed for access to the motorway network in the west of the country. It is about 19 miles from Cheltenham and 17 miles from Swindon. Fast trains to London (Paddington) from Kemble station, about five miles away, take about an hour and a half.

Surrey: Lakeside, Ewell

Two bedroom cottage - £295,000

Lakeside is an attractive development of cottages and apartments set around garden squares with garaging tucked in the corners so as not to dominate the views. Exterior lighting to paths and landscaped areas and a gated entrance enhance the feeling of privacy and exclusivity. It is a short walk to local shops and the village centre is nearby.

The beautiful lake is beside Ewell Court, a listed building surrounded by parkland, all that remains of Henry VIII‘s Nonsuch Palace, a great house begun in the sixteenth century. Today Ewell Court is a listed building housing the public library and health clinic. The arrangement of the homes at Lakeside was the result of a design competition which included the sympathetic conversion of the former Ewell Court farm buildings retaining the clock tower as the central feature.

Ewell Village is a short walk from Lakeside Court and was once a Roman settlement and later a spa town. There are good local shops and in nearby Epsom you have the full compliment of High Street shops with the Ashley Shopping Centre, Marks and Spencer and various restaurants. An extremely useful ‘Route Call‘ system is operated whereby you can book a bus and say what time you would like to be picked up and they will take you to Sainsburys or the centre of Epsom.

Ewell is situated just off the A240 and A24 Dorking Road about six miles from Junction 9 of the M25 motoway at Leatherhead. The nearby A3 and M25 motorway make Ewell and the surrounding area one of the most convenient locations in the South East with easy access to the south coast resorts. Epsom is less than two miles and Banstead about five miles. Hampton Court is about seven miles. Fast Trains to London (Victoria) take about half an hour. Gatwick Airport is about seventeen miles.
